Lake Worth Beach

Lake Worth Beach has the oldest housing stock we work in. The median home here was built in 1963, and the historic districts go back much further than that. Roughly a thousand cottages from 1913 to 1949 are still standing in College Park, Parrot Cove and the Lucerne districts, the largest concentration of that kind of house left in Florida. They were built as frame cottages, many on shallow slabs or raised piers with no vapor barrier under them. A lot were cut into duplexes and triplexes over the years, with new plumbing pushed through original wall cavities. Cast iron drain lines from that era do not fail under the sink. They fail horizontally, inside a wall, and the first sign is a soft baseboard. More than half the city rents, so a slow leak in a unit can run for months before anyone calls. We are fifteen to twenty minutes south of our shop.
